it was worthwhile. (:
haha tonight, I endangered the lives of many for I wanted to watch THE play - adolf. of cos, there were other reasons why I turned up:
1) alrdy paid for the tickets
2) didnt wanna miss a good showcase
3) couldnt let mau go on her own
ha. let me start on a good note: the play.
it was my first time watching a one-man show and I'm absolutely impressed by the way the actor drew the audience into Hitler's complicated mental struggle in the cell. he thought he was god - so he could manipulate every men's mind. he had a vision for germany - so he made it thier vision. he gave them whad they wanted, yet he did it under moderation because he knew that propaganda was crucial for his survival as a leader. now that he's at the brink of his death, he knew that the end of his life was just a step towards germany's reign. nth could stop him because they have all bought his belief. the most inspiring line he said was,
"promises are for publicity; not to be kept". I was motivated to appluad right then and mau shared the same sentiment. he knew that the only way to succeed as a leader, is to have total control over the population, so that the people will praise him before they are shown the result of his ideas. that's exactly why he detested democracy for it demands the aftermath before obeying the leader. then there was a break when the actor took off his costume and chatted with us on a lighter note. I nvr understood what it was for until it officially ended. he sort of placed our thoughts at the time before ww2 and allowed our minds to explore the similarities of today's politics and those in Hitler's reign. now, I've witnessed a true charismatic leader.
p/s: jie. we thanked the dozens of people who made the play possible, by raising our right hand. LOL. hail Hitler!
here's the funny/freaky thing that happened to me. throughout the play, I was contemplating whether to let ms yeo know that I watched this play, but on my way out of the studio, I bumped into her! yikes! I'm sure she was hysterical.
ms yeo: XUELING! whad are you doing here huh? spreading germs?
me: hur hur. *sheepish grin*
blawh.
btw, I still think that the majority of us present in the studio shouldnt have laughed at that racist joke the actor made. afterall, it's not ethically right to be anti one-of-our-races and then showing it to a foreigner. gotta be nuts.
that's all for tonight. I'm aching.
